I've spent most of my life in service to one man - or the position the man was in, I really am not sure. There are points I've felt more like a... trained attack dog than a person, but it was always my role and it fit within that.
I can only imagine the hurt of trusting someone enough to choose to be with them and being treated like a... possession.
