Name: Caleb Danvers Door: The submissive one, yay Canon: The Covenant Canon Point: Canon AU, three years post canon, recent graduate Boston College prelaw Age: 23 Appearance: image 1, image 2, image 3 History: Here Personality: Letting go is not easy for Caleb. Born the eldest, or so he thought, of the descendants of a coven that survived the Salem Witch Trials, he has had the weight on his shoulders of ensuring their longevity since he was a young boy. It was a heavy burden for a barely teenaged young man who was dealing with his own desires driven by the magic within him and the call of it that started the day he turned thirteen. It led to him growing up very controlling, both over himself, his abilities, and those around him, unwilling to let any of the “Sons of Ipswich” grow old before their times like his own father, a magic addict who paid the price for giving into that addiction. As he grew, and their eighteenth birthday approached signalling the beginning of adulthood and therefor paying for their magic, Caleb found himself reacting in an uptight manner to even the slightest use of magic for fear that constant use of even minor acts would lead to one of his “brothers” becoming addicted. Those fears led them to fighting often, part of his highly argumentative nature that also drove his ambitious desires including to become a lawyer after attending Harvard Law. The combination made it easy to try and make a case for protecting the others from themselves, pushing for his wants over their own in the name of protecting them. The fiery combination led to life being a mixture of good times, chiding, arguments, and eventually, fighting. They are fights that often become physical due to the elementally charged nature of the hereditary witches, often exacerbated by Caleb’s competitive nature. While it causes trouble with fighting with his friends, that same competitiveness is what leads to him being captain of the swim team and state champ several years running. Good and bad, mingling with his need to control, he is often overly studious to obtain the future he wants at Harvard and to prove he can control the magic that runs through his veins. It’s also an underlying issue in chasing the natural high of using magic that often leads to self destructive choices. Fighting for control is actually often where he tries to turn his addictive nature to the very magic he fights against. A twisted sword to be certain, the very being he is means that he will constantly ache to use the power, and yet when he does it will age him. Being part of him, this addictive need shows up in other things as well, leading him to actions that go against his very nature as he fights not to become the addict his blood could make him into. The combination of a controlling, combative, addictive nature and the constant battle to save himself and those he loves leads to a volatile and judgemental young man who will find himself in hot water when he’s in a place that caters to a person’s worst traits and encourages their dark instincts. Yet despite it all, Caleb is not entirely a killjoy. Growing up as one of four young men put on a pedestal due to their upbringing, money, and social standing, Caleb is both charming and charismatic. He’s welcoming to new students, can often let loose and enjoy with his friends despite his litany of concerns, and is even willing before ascending to use magic to both protect his own future and for the high of using. Cocky without being overly arrogant, Caleb’s loyalty to the other hereditary witches has meant giving up much of his own desires and needs for their protection. While being away from them with school, with all of the witches ascended and therefore paying for their choice to use magic, Caleb has only found himself more protective of his friends who are as much family, while fighting over control. Over their choices. Over his own life. The result is a hardworking young man with great plans for his future and a constant hunger within to dwindle away at his own life for the sake of using. Powers and Abilities: Caleb possesses what is only known of as the power. A hereditary power passed by bloodlines to first born sons, this power allows Caleb many abilities (listed below) but it also costs him his life. The power is highly addictive, and in canon siphons the life of the witch so that they prematurely age and die. My hope for both limiting him in game, as well as to keep him out of an endless loop of dying and regenerating to use and die again… His power would feed off his energy rather than his life force. So without rest, time, and taking care of himself physically, he can do several small things, or one large one, after which he would find himself worn out and too tired and used up to do it again. If he pushed at this point, it would kill him. With care and rest and all, he would replenish himself and be able to use again. Basically he’s got a video game energy bar, and the harder and faster he goes, the quicker it drains. The power is still addictive though, so the more he uses, the more he wants to use, and still sets him up for a cycle where he’ll have to learn what is important to use magic on and what he should look for the more mundane means to take care of.
