Only when they didn't listen. When I knew they were driving themselves to an early death and they wouldn't listen to me and do the right thing. Then it was hard. Knowing they were on the same paths our fathers had been. To die as old men at a very young age.

I have trouble with watching those that I can help choose pain and misery when there's another way.

Thank you for that though. I can live with remarkable... if you'll try and live without harming yourself to barely hold on to what living it.

It sounds like you've been through a great deal. I understand how it feels to be powerless to stop someone you love from making grave mistakes. It is the kind of inaction that weighs on a person.

Once they ascended, I don't think there's been much I can do. It's been five years since then. One of them is doing better than the others have.

They're adults now and it's their lives. Doesn't make it easier though.

We get a taste of our powers at thirteen. When you turn eighteen though, you get them all.

It's like going from zero to a thousand miles per hour in the course of a lightning strike.

I see. It sounds to me like it would be quite difficult to prepare for something so totally overwhelming.

You can't. We try. You think you can handle it, not give in, but it's hard. It's so hard.

And then you start aging.

One of ours had been lost and when we found him again it was because he'd come to kill us for more power because he had no control and had been driven mad by it.

It's part of why I like it here.

What do you mean, exactly? Because this place is a something of a respite from all of that?

it's not killing me here. It's different somehow.

If I use too much it tires me out and has even knocked me out but it's not using me up to power it.

Perhaps because we cannot truly die here.

I guess so. I just know that this place has offered me a lot, despite having the mark.

I'm glad you feel that way. I find it remarkable how kind some people can be under even the very worst circumstances.

Its amazing to me how much everyone here is helping one another and that they don't turn on each other.
